Winning Isn't Everything

"Winning isn't everything. It's how you play the game that counts." This is such an old cliche that most people tune out when they hear it.... But it is true.
Go to any sales training seminar these days, and you will hear over and over again that you have to set goals; that you have to have a winning attitude. You hear that winning is everything. You need to concentrate completely on reaching your goal.
Nothing can be allowed to get in the way:
Not family.
Not friends.
Not sleep.
Not recreation.
Not health....
Give me a break! If you give up all these to reach your goal, ie, to win, you won't have much when you get there!
Winning is a moment in time, a point on the road of your life. It is one-dimensional. In other words, it has no measurable substance. Winning exists for a split second, and then it is gone. It's over.
If you base your happiness in life on winning, you will have a very unhappy life.
The other day, I was taking a break on the deck with my youngest son, enjoying a beautiful, balmy day, while watching the birds coming to the bird feeders in our back yard. I was amazed at the variety of birds visiting our home.
I could have been working on this ezine, or submitting ads, or wading through my email, or helping my associates... but I was sitting in the sun enjoying the little things in life, like the birds and the warmth, and my son's company. It was wonderful.
Life is full of opportunities to relax and enjoy little things. However, our industry teaches us to block out the little things so that we can concentrate on reaching our goals - on winning. What that means is that we are spending all of our time so that we can enjoy a very brief, infinitely fleeting moment: the tiny flash in the space- time continuum when we reach our goal.
Winning is what happens when you reach the end of the game. It is what happens when the ribbon breaks at the finish line. It is the moment the horn blows and the stands start to empty. Everything is over.
Don't get me wrong! I'm not against winning. In fact, I really enjoy winning. I like that all too brief feeling of elation when I've reached my goal - when I've won the game.
But it is the GAME I enjoy. I play the game with winning in mind, but I play the game for the FUN of it. Most of my time involves playing the game - not winning it. That comes at the end. I'm going to enjoy playing the game. I'm going to enjoy everything that comes along with the game:
My family.
My friends.
My sleep.
My recreation.
My health.
The little moments spent on the deck with my wife and kids...
The other day, I took a break with my son.
I relaxed in the sun.
I was amazed by the variety of birds that live in this area.
I was amazed by how much my eleven-year-old son knows about birds!
Finally, during that very enjoyable break, a new article for my ezine took shape in my head... and I wasn't even working on my ezine!
I could have spent that time working on my ezine, but I probably would not have written this article. Instead, I would have used someone else's article - perhaps one that you have already read somewhere else.
Life is too short and friends are too few to spend it for that dot on the time-line called winning. Cherish every moment you have. Pay attention to your family and friends. Read more of your email. Go for a walk. Lie in the sun. Sleep!!!
To play the game properly, you need to have a goal in mind, but the real enjoyment comes from playing the game. That is how MOST of your life is spent. Winning is great, but you cannot hold onto that moment when you win.
If you want to really enjoy your life (you only have one!), you need to enjoy the time in between setting a goal and reaching it. You will have a far better life AND you will be far more likely to reach your goal. You will be healthier, happier, and a REAL winner.
Have a GREAT life!

The Meaning Of HELLO
Welcome to Flo's Business & Fun Blog
GOOD MORNING, Afternoon or Evening, whatever it is!
Hope your day is starting off beautifully! While You have your first cup of coffee, sit back and listen to some music and read about HELLO. Have you ever thought what this word stands for?
Read on....
Do you know that a simple "hello" can be a sweet one?
The word H E L L O means:
H=How are you?
E= Everything all right?
L= Like to hear from you .
L= Love to see you soon!
O=Obviously,
You are my friend..so, HELLO!
It has made me smile every time I say hello since then, so send this message to the people you care about.
Just thinking of you!
"I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."
Hope you are drinking from your saucer too...
I've never made a fortune, and it's probably too late now.
But I don't worry about that much, I'm happy anyhow.
And as I go along life's way, I'm reaping better than I sowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer, 'Cause my cup has overflowed.
Haven't got a lot of riches, and sometimes the going's tough,
But I've got loving ones all around me, and that makes me rich enough.
I thank God for his blessings, and the mercies He's bestowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer, "Cause my cup has overflowed.
I remember times when things went wrong, my faith wore somewhat thin. But all at once the dark clouds broke, and the sun peeped through again. So Lord, help me not to gripe, about the tough rows I have hoed. I'm drinking from my saucer, 'Cause my cup has overflowed.
If God gives me strength and courage, when the way grows steep and rough. I'll not ask for other blessings, I'm already blessed enough.
And may I never be too busy, to help others bear their loads.
Then I'll keep drinking from my saucer, "Cause my cup has overflowed.
*When I think of how many people in this world have it worse than I do, I realize just how blessed we really are. Don't be too busy today... Share this inspiring message with friend's and family. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures.
I hope You enjoyed reading the meaning of... H E L L O!
Tomorrow is my day off, I have plans this weekend with my sister that arrived last night. She's from London Ontario where my daughter lives so my weekend will be nice and busy!
Have yourself a Super Friday and a Fantastic weekend!

Recycle Your Articles and Gain
Tons of New Subscribers
by Alexandria K. Brown
“The E-zine Queen”
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
While there are many effective ways to promote your e-zine and gain subscribers, the one I've had the MOST success with is to write and submit articles for use in OTHER people's e-zines.
"But wait a minute," you say. "Aren't I supposed to be creating great articles for MY e-zine?"
Yes, you are! AND after your article appears in your OWN e-zine, you should then submit it to others. This past fall, I quickly learned that this is by far the BEST, FASTEST, FREE way to promote an e-zine for three reasons:
1) Instead of just advertising your e-zine, you're giving others a hearty taste of it! And by sharing these useful articles, you emphasize your expertise in your particular subject area.
2) You have the right to plug yourself, your biz, and your e-zine at the end of every article! And anyone using your article must keep this information intact. (More on that in a minute.)
3) You can quickly gain exposure to THOUSANDS of untapped prospects at a time. For example, last summer, a popular Internet marketing e-zine featured my article "Avoid These 5 Web Site Blunders." I was overjoyed to learn the publication had more than *10,000* subscribers! Since this was a great article, and all of these readers saw my ad for my e-zine right after it, I gained hundreds of new subscribers by the end of that week.
HERE'S HOW TO GET STARTED
1. PICK A WINNER
Browse through your archives and pick an insightful article that really showcases your expertise. Make sure it's one that you featured in your e-zine several issues ago. Why? It's a courtesy to make YOUR subscribers feel as if they're receiving unique information from you, BEFORE you offer it to the rest of the world.
2. POLISH IT 'TIL IT SHINES
Since you probably haven't looked at this article in awhile, do another proofread and clean it up if necessary. Publishers will not be interested in your article if it contains typos, misspelled words, grammatical errors, or inactive Web links — these goofs would compromise the integrity of their publications.
3. ADD A COPYRIGHT NOTICE
At the end of the article, insert a copyright notice, dated when you first published the article. Example: (c) 2001 Alexandria K. Brown
4. WRITE A JAZZY "RESOURCE BOX"
In exchange for your letting other publishers reprint your article, it's customary to require that they include the contact information you provide. This is usually called the 'resource box' and it should come RIGHT after your copyright notice.
Here's where you can ham it up! Take about five lines and promote your E-ZINE!
Don't waste time promoting your *business* in the resource box. Why? You'll gain MORE potential clients by first getting them to subscribe to your e-zine. THEN you've got them! You will then be in front of them REGULARLY, and that's when they'll understand what a genius you are and why they should hire you.
Don’t forget to mention if your e-zine is FREE!
5. SUBMIT YOUR ARTICLE TO ONLINE CONTENT DIRECTORIES
There are dozens of 'free content' Web sites and announcement lists where you can submit your articles for other publishers to use. Some even let you include a picture, which I love because I'm a ham at heart. ; )
Here are three to get you started:
http://www.ideamarketers.com
http://www.marketing-seek.com
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aabusiness
6. SUBMIT YOUR ARTICLE DIRECTLY TO APPROPRIATE PUBLISHERS
For best results, take the bull by the horns and contact publishers directly. But not just any publishers — ones with e-zines that would be perfect for the articles you write and the type of readership you want to attract.
I STRONGLY recommend that you become a member of the Directory of E-zines. This list is by far one of the most credible and reliable ones on the Web. It costs less than $40 to join for the year, but it's well worth it — your membership lets you search through hundreds of other e-zines. You can search by all types of factors: topic, readership, subscriber numbers, etc. Learn more here:
When you have your personal list of publishers ready, craft a friendly note to send along with your article. Here's an example of what I use:
"Dear Editor:
I see from your e-zine that you occasionally accept articles from outside authors. Would you like to use my article titled [article name here] in a future issue?
You're welcome to use the article for FREE, provided it remains intact and unaltered, and you retain my entire resource box at the end of the article. If you'd like to publish it, just send me a copy of the issue it appears in.
If you have any questions, feel free to write me back at [e-mail address here] And if you do not accept articles, I apologize — just let me know and I'll remove you from my editor list.
Best, [name and contact info here]"
Simple, yes? Then just paste your article right underneath your message. Do NOT send it as an attachment — it likely won't get read.
TIP: Your article will get picked up by MORE publishers if you format it to around 60 characters per line with hard returns after each line. Many publishers don't want to do ANY formatting work to guest articles, so the more "ready to go" yours is, the better! : )

Ideas Are Cheap - But...
Welcome to Flo's Business & Fun Blog
Hope your day is starting off beautifully! Michael in his super article shares with You some thoughts about ideas and innovation. Is innovation and creativity something we can develop or must we be born with it? Michael and I believe we can all learn to be innovators!

Ideas Are Cheap-But Extremely Valuable if...

At the turn of the last century, there was serious discussion about disbanding the US Patent Office because many believed there were few inventions left to be patented. The common wisdom was that all the great inventions had already been taken. No doubt there are people today who feel the same way.
I disagree. I believe the world is entering a time of unprecedented innovation. We’re experiencing some of the greatest prosperity we’ve ever known. Productivity is at an all-time high. And when basic needs are met, it’s easier to be creative.
Innovation is not only for so-called “creative” minds. We’re all creative. Each of us has the ability to generate ideas to solve problems in our businesses and create stronger relationships.
Innovation is often little more than taking information and reorganizing it in new ways.
It’s important to take some of our increased productivity and use some of the time saved to think and create. Ask questions. Dig deep. Think about what you want and what others might want. What problems need to be solved and how can we solve them?
Arnold Glasgow said, “Ideas not coupled with action never-become b?gger than the brain cells they occupied.”
Ideas are cheap. It’s implementation that creates the real value. Ideas by themselves are worthless. Plans are nothing . . . unless they are followed with action. An idea without a strategy, without action, is useless.
That said, it’s still paramount we keep track of the ideas we have. Write them down. Record them. And make them easy to access later. One idea may trigger another one that could be just the one to make you a million dollars—or save a million. An idea you have today may be impractical. Or perhaps you may be unable to do anything about it at the moment. No matter. Make sure you recordit somewhere. If you make it easy to do, you’ll do more of it.
I use my Task List in Microsoft Outlook to keep track of ideas. It's my "Idea Inventory". I can categorize them and they’re easy to find. Index cards also work well. They fit handily in a shirt pocket or purse and are easy to sort and categorize. You can even use your journal or a separate document on your word processor. The easier it is to find and review them, the more valuable your ideas will be to you.
I also use a hand-held tape recorder (DVR) in my car to record ideas as they occur to me. It’s not only handy, it’s safer—I don’t try to write stuff down as I’m driving. Later, I transcribe the ideas into my Outlook files.
If you’re truly looking for ideas and answers to problems, you’ll surely find them. Think of them as decks of cards lined up to infinity. Each card is an idea or solution. One might be a low card—another a face card. Occasionally, you find an ace. If you keep picking them up, you’ll get better at reading the cards. You’ll make it a habit and you’ll find some aces.
Pick the best, implement them and watch your life—and even the lives of those around you—work better.

3 Ways To STOP Affiliate Link "Hijackers"
By Jim Edwards

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Let's face the facts!
Almost everyone online today is looking to make or save a buck any way they can. In the past, most of the people who clicked on your affiliate links used to purchase without a second thought... but, as times get tougher online, it seems a growing number won't!
As money gets tighter and product prices rise, people who know how to manipulate the system will sometimes replace your affiliate ID with theirs and "hijack" your commissions.
Here's an example:
Let's say your affiliate link is www.ebookaboutcats.com/?live-well.
Say the highjacker uses the affiliate ID of captain-hook. What he would do is replace your ID with his, and buy from the URL www.ebookaboutcats.com/?captain-hook.
The bottom line: the hijacker puts your money in his pocket.
In other cases, they can't stand the thought of you "making money off them" so they bypass you by simply chopping off the end of your affiliate link that contains your ID.
Instead of buying from www.ebookaboutcats.com/?live-well, the bypasser will simply "chop off" the affiliate ID at the end and simply buy from the plain URL www.ebookaboutcats.com -- without your affiliate ID attached!
Either way, you get cheated out of your rightful commission.
To help you fight these affiliate link hijackers I offer a couple of my best (proven and battle tested) tips, which will at least confuse these "hijackers" and, in many cases, often defeat and disarm them completely.
Side Note: If someone really, really wants to steal your affiliate commission, they will find a way; however, most hijackers are just opportunists who will only act if they see an easy buck.
The first and cheapest way to hide your affiliate links is using a javascript redirect page. This is where you hide your affiliate link in a page on your site using a simple javascript that redirects people to your affiliate link.
It works great not to expose your "naked" affiliate link in your actual email messages and ezine ads, but, once people get redirected to the true affiliate link, many affiliate programs expose the affiliate link along with your ID in the browser address bar.
Here's an example of a redirect script in action.
Click => http://www.ebookfire.com/esejs.html
Notice how the link takes you to a page where you can see my affiliate ID, ebookfire, in your web browser's address bar.
Like it or not, someone can replace my ID with theirs and "hijack" the commission... but at least the redirect script keeps them from immediately seeing my "naked" affiliate link(http://hop.clickbank.net/?ebookfire/ebksecrets) when I publish it in my newsletter, email, or on my website.
You can get free redirect scripts just about anywhere you find free javascripts. Here is the script I use http://www.ebookfire.com/jrs.shtml.
A better way to hide your affiliate links is using a zero- frame or "invisible" frame that masks the affiliate link by making it appear you are sending people to a page on your website. In reality, you are actually sending them to your affiliate link.
This is the technique used by those "sub-domain" redirect services that provide you with urls like http://ese.ebookfire.net.
While giving someone a link like that is much better than using a "naked" affiliate link such as http://hop.clickbank.net/?ebookfire/ebksecrets, there is a problem. As soon as someone does a "view >> source" in their web browser they'll see your naked affiliate link plain as day... which instantly blows your cover!
Currently the best way to protect your affiliate commissions from ruthless hijackers is to use a combination of a zero-frame page along with URL encryption. This involves sending someone to URL that looks like a page on your site, but actually pulls in your affiliate link like those "sub-domain" services. However, there's one critical difference...
If someone does a "view >> source" in their browser, you have added protection in that all they will see is a jumble of computer code instead of your naked affiliate link.
Check out this example of a zero-frame with URL encryption in action.
Click => http://www.ebookfire.com/ese.html
Side Note: Beware of cloaking scripts that use javascript to mask your affiliate link because they could malfunction in some web browsers.
Here's the bottom line: if you are going to sell through other people's affiliate programs, never send a "naked" affiliate link... you're just asking for people to hijack or bypass you if you do.
If you want to get paid more often through your affiliate links, make sure it's not obvious you're referring people to an affiliate link. If they can't easily see how to hijack or bypass your link, a lot more people who would have taken the money out of your pocket will just go ahead and buy through your link - which is, after all, the whole point! :-)

3 Ways To STOP Affiliate Link "Hijackers"

Welcome to Flo's Business & Fun Blog

Viral Videos Now Prime-Time TV

I flipped on VH1 yesterday and sat enthralled as a rap artist with colorful language skills hosted "Web Junk 20" where they played 20 videos plucked from the web and played them on cable TV.
Last night I saw that Bravo Channel now airs a show called "Outrageous and Contagious Viral Videos" in the afternoon and evening.
The show features videos found online, focusing on funny, creative and "blooper" style content (though they skipped the foul-mouthed rap star).
Though most of the viral videos currently getting air time on TV get ooh's, aah's and laughter, the fact that "viral videos" are now a part of everyday reality has serious business implications.
For those of you without a teenager or that one "special" friend who always sends the latest joke or video every time you open your in-box, let me bring you up to speed.
A "viral video" is a video played from a web page or as a file on your computer. It goes "viral" because one person sees it and passes it on to more people, who in turn pass it on to their contacts (like a cold virus).
This social interaction is the gas in the video's tank to help it drive around the web, sometimes getting millions of views all over the world.
Now, once we get beyond the "jackass" stunts, bloopers, and giggles, the principles that drive viral videos can help generate serious traffic to business websites.
These videos go viral in a general market because they play to interests and emotions we all share, including: laughter, horror, lust, and sadness. In the absence of any other common factors, we, as humans, all love to laugh, etc.
In business, we've learned that niche markets make it much easier to sell a product or service because we can group people based on profession, physical characteristics, and interests.
For example, a dental supply salesman knows to target dentists and hygienists, and would not bother calling on a craft store.
On the web, a dog trainer knows they should target dog lovers, and if they're really smart, they target owners of a specific breed of dog.
Anyone who sells anything to anyone online can harness the power of viral videos to get traffic to their website simply by targeting their videos at a specific audience and appealing to the same emotions that encourage people to pass along other viral videos.
** Humor **
Put a smile on people's faces, make them laugh, give them a moment's break from a hectic day and they'll love you for it (and want to share it with their friends).
Who says you can't make a "how to" video for your customers wearing a chicken suit!
** Short and Sweet **
The best videos that keep people's attention last under 6 minutes. When starting out, try to keep your videos under 2 minutes, especially if they contain mostly "commercial" content.
** "Ask To Pass" **
Sometimes a simple sentence of "Hey, if you like this video, feel free to pass it along to a friend" at the end of your video will start the viral effect rolling.
** Go Where The Viewers Go **
Once you've distributed your video to your existing customers and asked them to share it, put your videos out where new people can see them.
Start with http://Video.Google.com, iFilm.com, and YouTube.com and then keep your eyes open for new places to post your videos to attract new viewers.

Free Websites Showcase Your Videos Online

If you didn't realize that video will take over online this year, you haven't been paying attention.
Everything from video blogs to full-blown website infomercials keep cropping up all across the Internet.
The driving force behind this video explosion is a combination of cheap bandwidth, easy-to-use authoring tools, and Flash video (a video format that works on both PC and MAC).
With the sudden increase in homemade videos about everything from "how-to break dance" to infomercials about real estate products, it seems only natural that another explosion should follow: the appearance of numerous websites that showcase these homegrown Steven Spielberg's.
In fact, these online videos have gained so much popularity some have even crossed over into mainstream television.
Of the three main online video hosting services I looked at, they all shared the following characteristics.
They all allow you to upload your video and host it free of charge, making it super easy for even the most technically challenged videographer.
They all allow visitors to search their sites using keywords, so describing your video and choosing a good title (with keywords people search for) will help increase your exposure.
One of the most exciting features common to these sites is that they allow you and others to get copy-and-paste code that you can place on a blog or website (or anywhere else you can paste html code) and display a video without hosting it yourself.
This one feature can cause an explosive "viral" effect if you create a video that appeals to a mass audience because people can not only pass it along, but post it in additional locations for everyone to see.
Video.Google.com - Google's video service makes it possible to upload and play your videos for people searching through their growing catalog of homegrown video.
You'll find everything from web-cam karaoke to infomercials and "live" seminars. One of the best things about Google video is the daily report about how many pages views your video got during the previous day or week.
Also, Google allows you to charge for your videos if you want, something the other sites don't yet offer.
A disadvantage of the service is that, of the three, Google Video takes the longest to approve your videos and make them available, sometimes taking 48 hours or longer to make a video "live."
YouTube.com - YouTube seems to want to foster a feeling of community with its video portal.
Unlike Google Video, which requires a separate software program to upload video, YouTube allows users to upload video right through their website interface. Of the three sites profiled here, YouTube's embedded player makes it easiest to share and pass along video from a blog.
They also approved my video and had it live online in less than 10-minutes.
IFilm.com - The coolest thing about IFilm.com is the fact that they have a show on VH1 every Friday called "Web Junk 20" which features the funniest web videos of the week on real television.
They also actively promote the concept of "viral videos" with a separate category in their directory profiling videos you want to share.
The only negative was that their pass-along player forces viewers to watch a short ad about IFilm at the beginning, something the other two don't do.

Old Wisdom
A sound heart is the life of the flesh; but envy brings rottenness to the bones.
Honest-to-goodness light from the eyes brings happiness to other hearts... and a genuine compliment deposits manna into bone marro.

Say A Kind Word To Someone YOU Love
"You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world's happiness now.
How?
By giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone who is lonely or discouraged. Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime."

Watching You Online!
Welcome to Flo's Business & Fun Blog
Hope your day is starting off beautifully! Today's article is a very important to understand about "ports"! Ports means: You have openings through which information passes back and forth between your computer and the Internet. Every computer that is connected to the Internet has "ports" that allow it to connect.
Jim shares with You information regarding "ports" and how to protect yourself from unwanted intruders, read more below...
Here's a Fact of the Day...
In 1893, Chicago hired its first police woman. Her name was Marie Owens. While the city was progressive in its hiring practices, Chicago's female police officers were not allowed to wear uniforms until 1956.

Are They Watching You Online?
- by Jim Edwards

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
When surfing the Internet you probably take your anonymity for granted, most of us do.
Tapping phones, listening to confidential conversations, reading others' e-mail messages seems like something that only happens in spy movies to "other" people.
However, you probably don't realize just how much information about yourself has the potential to get transmitted across the Internet every time you go online.
Every computer connected to the Internet has "ports" that allow it to connect. A "port" doesn't mean you have a physical hole or opening in your computer's case or hardware, but it does mean you have openings through which information passes back and forth between your computer and the Internet.
Depending on the type of connection (dial up, LAN, cable, DSL), you may have several openings for potential mischief by hackers, malicious code or viruses.
Computers with dedicated connections rate the most at risk. If someone or something gets into one of these ports and into your computer, they can potentially watch everything you do and see all the data you enter, including social security numbers and credit card information.
The easiest way to defeat this problem involves using a firewall. Firewalls, simple and inexpensive software available at virtually any office supply or computer store, block the most common ports hackers use to enter your computer.
Firewalls also help you detect and block unauthorized transmission of information from your computer to the Internet. This adds a significant measure of protection if you get infected with a Trojan Horse virus that tries to "phone home" to the hacker with your sensitive information.
If you'd like to test your connection for vulnerability to attack, log on to http://security1.norton.com and run the various diagnostics. I would strongly advise anyone connected to the Internet through DSL or cable to get and use a firewall to protect against unauthorized access.
Infected with "Spyware?"
Previously we talked about unauthorized access to your computer. But a growing problem online with people watching you and your activities involves using programs you willingly place on your computer.
Commonly called "Spyware," this refers to any program that transmits information about you to someone else without you knowing exactly what gets sent. The main purpose of Spyware involves tracking your surfing habits so advertisers know which targeted ads to send you.
Most Spyware basically comes onto your computer bundled with other software applications, as a standalone program, or as modification to the HTML on a web page.
Regardless of how you get it, you need to understand exactly what information gets transmitted about you so you can decide whether to keep or uninstall the software. Plain and simple, these Spyware programs can potentially reveal extremely sensitive information about you and your online habits.
If you have concerns about Spyware and whether or not your computer currently carries any, log on to www.lavasoft.de and check out the free PC software that will scan your system for known Spyware.

Here's a Fact of the Day...
In 1893, Chicago hired its first police woman. Her name was Marie Owens. While the city was progressive in its hiring practices, Chicago's female police officers were not allowed to wear uniforms until 1956.

Are They Watching You Online?

After all the debate over website design, shopping carts and credit card processors, every website owner eventually comes to the startling realization that they need one more thing to survive -website traffic!
Without website traffic it's the same as building an expensive billboard and, instead of placing it alongside a busy highway, you hide it in your basement where nobody can see it.
Upon realizing they need traffic, most website owners run out and start blowing chunks of money and time trying to get "hits" to their sites, but they fail to realize that all "hits" are not created equal.
In their quest to get eyeballs to their websites, most online operators don't realize there's a big difference between driving "general" traffic to your website and driving "targeted" traffic.
Just getting any traffic is the same technique TV advertisers use. They flash ads on the screen in front of people who can't afford or don't need the advertised product.
Since general advertising can't hit specific targets, they hit everyone and hope that someone in their target audience is actually watching at that moment. Spam, banner ads, "safe-lists" and similar traffic techniques fall into this "general" category.
"Targeted" traffic is made up of people who are genuinely interested in what you have to say or sell online. These people either share the same interests or have an immediate need or problem they are trying to solve.
"Targeted" traffic is best because the people hitting your website have a much higher likelihood of actually making a purchase.
Targeted traffic comes from people following recommended links on other sites, typing in relevant keywords into the search engines, or even reading articles you've written on a particular subject and then clicking over to your site for more information.
If you don't already know where to find the best sources of targeted traffic for your website, you will need to experiment with lots of different sources to find the ones that bring visitors who give you the most "bang for your buck."
The fastest way to determine which avenues provide the most targeted traffic is by using an "ad tracker". An "ad tracker" is a simple program, residing on your web server, that tracks how many visitors your site gets from a particular source and how many of them purchased.
Though it sounds simple, most businesses don't do this! Most businesses can't tell you their visitor to buyer conversion percentage and, therefore, don't know exactly how much they can invest in traffic generation and remain profitable.
Whether you pay for your website traffic with cash (pay-per-click search engines, ezine ads), or you pay for it with the sweat of your brow (article distribution, free search engines), you must identify your best and most profitable sources of targeted traffic that convert into buyers, subscribers, or leads.
Failure to identify and track where your buyers come from and then calculate how much they really cost you ultimately translates into failure for your online business.
